A little background music for this story. My wife is working towards her Respiratory Therapy degree. She had just gotten off work on July 15th, 2008. She was sitting at a red light stopped, when she was plowed into by a drunk driver. He was in a Chevy S350, she was in a Grand Marquis. Our car was destroyed and her back has never been the same. He blew a .20 ONE HOUR AFTER THE WRECK. The kicker was that he had just bonded out that morning from a DUI the previous weekend.
As you can guess, everytime something legal happens, she has to go 1.5 hours up to Jackson County, Indiana to court. Today was one of those days. Originally we were supposed to be there at 10:30 AM. We called this morning and were told 2:30 pm. When we arrived at 2:15, we were told that the bond hearing had already passed at 2 and we had missed it.
One day shot. From the outset, we have never been able to get any kind of accurate information from the prosecutor or courthouse. They told us a few months back that the crminal was still in jail. Turns out that he had been released to rehab and then right out of rehab to his house. He celebrated that by getting his 3rd and 4th DUI's that weekend. He's been in jail ever since, but this experience has been a complete nightmare. I joked today that the next court date we have we should arrive at 7AM and camp out in front of the courthouse doors like we are going to a rock concert.

and so it begins....

I've now entered the wonderful world of blogging. TA-DA!
One of the main reasons for doing this is to force myself to be more accountable on my weight loss journey. I'm not going to shy away from some of the facts about my problem.
Christmas 2007 was my low point of this journey. I weighed in at a whopping 405 lbs. After seeing some pictures of myself, I really was at rock bottom. I just wanted to curl up and go to sleep and not wake up. (I know...waaahhh I'm a fattie). I made the decision after seeing the pictures to have one more week of food decadence before joining Weight Watchers with my wife. She has been wonderfully supportive of this journey over the last year. I could not have made any strides without her.
So here we are, almost one year later. I am down 70 lbs total. I hit a snafu in the road in September. Walking down the street, I stumble off of a curb and tore a major tendon in my left foot. I had been down as much as 80, but I've manage to get off track and have settled in with the 70 total. Here are some before and after pictures. As you can tell, I have NOT mastered the art of the self portrait with the cell phone camera :)
Anyhow, with better food choices and a lot of exercise (mainly Yoga), I think it's been a good year. Let's roll on with year 2 and make this thing even better. The foot is almost healed and I'm ready to get active again.
